It's obvious that just hearing the sonic wail of the Screaming God results in instant death, however it's the bio-luminescent lantern parasites living in the walls of the monster's lungs that are the real problem. The Screaming God's lungs absorb carbon dioxide that also feeds the parasites. When the God screams it exhales oxygen-rich phosphorescent breath that explodes, propelling the parasites along the sound waves, infecting anything that vibrates with the sound of the monster's wail.
The Screaming God has survived as a host to these parasites for untold time and has learned to form it's giant muscled tongue into a funnel, aiming a beam of parasites traveling through it's scream.
The lantern parasites feed on the exhaled byproducts of healthy lungs and can lay dormant for extended periods. When dormant the parasites reproduce, swelling in size and filling up with new tiny parasites until they become strangely attractive bulbous shapes, filled with a warm glow of twinkling lights. Inevitably, when they are disturbed they explode, projecting tiny parasites outward to find the warm breath of a new host. There they will feed all over again until their new host coughs, sneezes, or even laughs too hard.
As the parasite reproduces in the lungs of human survivors, breathing becomes harder and harder. The survivor begins to see euphoric hallucinations beckoning them. The wheezing survivors that last long enough leave the settlement, chasing beautiful the image of an Illuminated Lady or man carrying lanterns into the darkness. Thus does the poor host travel, summoned all the way to the source...to the Lantern Parasite Queen.

The Screaming God expansion is a new expansion, announced during the Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5 Kickstarter campaign. The expansion adds the Screaming God monster as a new Node 5 quarry, meaning that it is meant to be a a very late game fight. This expansion also adds an extra 5 lantern years to your campaign, pushing back the Gold Smoke Knight fight. Interestingly, the final encounter of this expansion sounds as though it will revolve around the Lantern Parasite Queen, which Poots has yet to unveil.
The expansion adds the Screaming God Armor Set to the game for survivors to work towards.
